The Administrative Data Research Network was an ESRC-funded project that ran from October 2013 to July 2018. It is currently at the end of its funding cycle and is no longer taking applications. Administrative data research will be taken forward in a new project, which was launched at the end of 2018.

The ADS legal team were based at HeLEX (the Centre for Health, Law and Emerging Technologies at the University of Oxford).  The team monitored and analysed the evolving legal landscape to understand the implications for research that uses administrative data. They also provided academic advice and good practice guidance on legal and regulatory matters arising from the Network’s activities.

The team was led by Professor Jane Kaye, who is also the Director of HeLEX. She is an expert on the relationships between law, ethics and emerging technologies in health.

Dr Jessica Bell and Dr Heather Gowans produced the guide “Legal Issues for ADRN Users” in 2016 and gave a first insight in the changes that will come with the implementation of the Digital Economy Act 2017.
